Intermediate level students work through Theatre Grade Levels 4 & 5 in both the 'Speech & Drama' and 'Performance Arts' streams. They also present a full-scale Musical Theatre Production of 'Thoroughly Modern Millie.' Participating in Theatre Performance Examinations in solos or groups is encouraged, in order to provide maximum performance exposure and experience.

SPEECH & DRAMA: offers the development of skills in spoken interpretation and dramatic

performance. During solo and pair activities, the focus is on building vocal technique, confidence in public speaking and developing an understanding of the poetry, prose and dramatic scenes they present. Audition techniques such as sight reading are also developed. Students may elect to take this work to the next level and complete their Solo Grade exams in Speech and Drama (optional)

Group work recognises the fact that the performing arts are frequently a collective activity

involving co-operation between a number of participants. Students work together to devise scenes using newspaper articles and play titles as starting points.

PERFORMANCE ARTS: In groups, we explore a range of performance elements to create original performances. Intermediate students in 2012 will focus on Singing, Dance, Vaudeville, Slapstick and Music Hall as their Performance Arts, culminating in a group performance.

With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today.

With its topical subject manner, multi-ethnic cast of actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists and high-energy, contemporary pop score which includes the hit title song, FAME JR. is an ideal musical for young performers.
